NEPA v CIPR Annual Challenge Quiz
Just as September’s NEPA News went to press last month, a bold number of NEPA members were locked in mortal combat, outnumbered several to one and battling hard to take the coveted title and trophy from the CIPR and their quiz queens, the CAMettes.
So, better late than never, here’s our review of what proved to be another successful night...
for the CIPR as usual!
This year’s venue was the strikingly monikered ‘Nancy’s Bordello’ on Argyll Street to the east of Newcastle town centre, one of the Apartment Group’s more unusual hostelries.
With subtle lighting and all the velvety comfort the name suggests, the ambience was let down only by some distinctly flat lager. Full marks however to the caterers who provided a fine feast to get the creative juices flowing and tongues wagging in appreciation.
With the buffet soon demolished and the table cleared, the proceedings began in earnest.
Quizmaster Tony Coddington came up with his familiar assortment of mind-numbing photos and memory-stretching conundrums to give even the brainiest eggheads in the room a run for their money.
A brave fight was put up from the NEPA sides, particularly by Mike Lynch’s two talented teams and Ed’s own ‘Cuckoos in the Corner’, each taking the
lead spot at differented stages of the contest but alas, history repeated itself and the CAM-ettes proved their stamina in the finishing straight to reclaim the title and trophy for the third time.
Our thanks to all those who joined in this year; congratulations to Laurel and her team; thanks to Nancy fro the use of her boudoir; and kudos to Liz Davies who bridged both camps to organise a grand ‘do, much appreciated by all contenders.
It just remains to be seen whether the CAMettes want to risk their title and throw down another gauntlet next year.
We’re up for it... and next time it’s personal!
